Job Description Apply: Reserving and Capital Actuary - London Market
I am working with a leading global London Market maritime insurer, hiring a Reserving and Capital Actuary to join their tightly-knit actuarial team. In this role, you will work closely with the Chief Actuary, CRO, and Board of Directors. You will learn from the best in the industry—the actuarial team comprises two esteemed actuaries with over 25 years of combined experience from varied consulting and London Market backgrounds!
This high-profile role is perfect for an individual contributor or someone looking to step out of management, i.e., ideal for an individual who wants to work in an egalitarian way—where you get all the credit for your work. Given the way they are set up, they offer a market-leading benefits package such as a 15% employer pension contribution when you contribute 5%, a competitive base salary, and a hybrid working arrangement (3 days in the office in Central London).
You will be a confident actuary with strong reserving or capital experience (ideally both), interested in working with and getting exposure to senior stakeholders in a role where you will really see the impact of your work and contribution directly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Reserving and Capital Optimisation: Calculate quarterly best estimate reserves, and continuously automate and modify reserving processes. Maintain technical provisions and capital models in compliance with instructions from the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and Commissariat aux Assurances (CAA) in Luxembourg to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- International Financial Reporting: Prepare regulatory financial reports, communicate results clearly, and highlight key sensitivities and uncertainties. Manage capital and reporting requirements for international branches across Bermuda and Asia.
- Underwriting and Claims Monitoring: Monitor and report on underwriting exposure and claims experience, providing insightful analysis to support business decisions.
- Reinsurance Programme: Model the placement of the reinsurance programme, ensuring optimal coverage and risk management.
- Ad Hoc Analysis: Conduct various ad hoc analyses as needed to support the business and enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Nearly/Newly qualified actuary preferred. Consultancy experience is preferred, but those without consulting experience from a London Market insurer are also highly desirable.
- Strong technical skills in reserving or capital modelling, ideally both.
- Advanced Excel skills, some coding experience, experience with reserving software, and the ability to process, interpret, and manipulate large datasets.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to challenge and be challenged on actuarial concepts.
We value equity at all stages of the recruitment process. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make the process more accessible to you.
