Job Description Apply: R&D Actuary

Goodman Masson are working with a prestigious client based in the UK who are going through a significant period of growth. This is a rare opportunity to join the European team as a Research and Development Actuary.

The role holder will contribute to the research and develop the company’s actuarial bases in respect of Longevity, Mortality, Income Protection and Critical Illness products in UK and Ireland. The role will work on a variety of projects and will include all stages of assumption development.

The successful candidate will work closely with the pricing team and support in pricing activities and work with the Strategic Analytics team to implement new techniques.

The R&D Actuary will have the following responsibilities:

  • Carry out basis development work for longevity and protection lines of business
  • Develop and maintain the calibration of the internal capital model for demographic risks
  • Support new business plans, including longevity initiatives
  • Contribute to wider research initiatives such as thought leadership articles and building relationships with academia
  • People management

Knowledge and Skillset:

  • Qualified or nearly qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries or other similar organisation
  • Experience of experience studies and pricing within the life insurance industry (including reinsurers, insurers and consultancy)
  • A good understanding of the Protection or Longevity market
  • Interest in programming and comfortable with or willing to learn software packages, such as Tableau, SQL (or comparable database language) and R.
  • Experience in statistical or machine learning techniques being applied to insurance
