Job Description Apply: Is the traditional Scheme Actuary path not for you
I am often approached by qualified actuaries who want to do something different, but who are restricted, as their background is 100% focused on traditional trustee/scheme advisory work.
We can always help with either a move to one of the Bulk Annuity Teams with the insurance companies, a move in-house, or even a career change to become a Professional Trustee. But what if you enjoy actuarial consulting, are performing very well, and don’t want to lose the many benefits of being a consultant in a niche market? I am recruiting for a key London-based client who could be just what you are looking for.
They do advise trustees, but not in the way you are used to. The Strategic Trustee Projects business doesn’t do standard trustee work (valuations, scheme actuary services etc.), but instead helps the schemes with their longer-term strategic planning. This could involve understanding their investment strategy, earmarking potential de-risking solutions and exploring novel liability management options. So if you are keen to retain an element of trustee-focused consulting – giving advice and problem solving – then you can do this but in a new and different way.
In addition, you will also pick up a number of corporate advisory projects, where rather than being an isolated team of pensions actuaries working on the same handful of schemes, you suddenly become part of a joined up team, including actuaries, tax professionals, investment consultants, structuring and covenant insolvency experts working together to provide a unique experience and service to each client.
Right now I am looking to speak with qualified pensions actuaries with good project management experience, fantastic communication skills and who enjoy solving complex, unique and varied problems for a wide range of businesses.
