Working as an experienced member of a team supporting consultants and actuaries in all aspects of pensions consulting and actuarial work. Studying for the actuarial professional qualification.
Key Activities
- Involved in valuation and accounting processes e.g. project management, liaising with the RSC and Accounting SG.
- Carries out non-standard calculations not carried out by the RSC and in addition one off / ad hoc complex calculations associated with actuarial work, scheme design, funding or accounting.
- Involved in drafting client correspondence and presentations.
- Liaises with client on the Client Opportunities Matrix to ensure clients are kept appraised of all relevant developments.
- Research new business prospect activity and collate for the consultant in support of business development opportunities.
- Attends and participates in client meetings with consultant.
- Delegates work to more junior colleagues. Acts as a mentor to, and helps, develop junior colleagues.
- Presents technical training sessions (e.g. legislative changes) to junior colleagues to support their development.
- Contributes to the technical aspect of preparing for trustee meetings e.g. setting the agenda and content for meeting packs; and liaises with client or senior consultant.
- Assisting the lead consultant on the delivery of strategic and day to day actuarial consulting advice that requires detailed ongoing client knowledge as well as good working relationships with key client contacts.
- Works with the RSC, Specialty Groups and other Mercer businesses to deliver a streamlined service to clients.
- Deals with routine queries received from clients, scheme members, third parties and other Mercer businesses.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- The successful candidate will be studying for the Actuarial Professional qualification.
- Will be educated to degree level with a minimum 2:1 degree.
- Broad understanding of how UK pensions schemes operated and an understanding of the UK Pensions Act with the ability to interpret rules and awareness of what they mean for client work.
- Excellent planning and organisational ability in order to prioritise and complete work in accordance to deadlines.
- Good analytical skills and ability to work through tasks in a logical manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong IT skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
