Job Description Apply: Regional Risk Officer EMEA


The Risk Officer works with local Management and the group risk management team, to establish, implement, monitor and report upon an effective risk and compliance programme to ensure the company’s and business segment’s consistency with the Corporation’s global Enterprise Risk Management framework as well as Solvency II Requirements and specific Central Bank of Ireland and Financial Services Authority of South Africa requirements on risk management and all other applicable regulation.


Leads and embeds the local and International enterprise risk management framework:

Lead the assessment of risk and controls documentation Risk Management Systems throughout UK, Continental Europe, Middle East, and South Africa. Maintain and enhance Risk Registers.  Provide input as a subject matter expert to a selection of risks across the group.
Liaise with and challenge the risk and control owners and observers’ assessments of their risks and controls on a regular basis, lead the identification and monitoring of actions to strengthen the controls and lead in the identification of operational loss events and emerging risks.
Conduct risk reviews of business operations to confirm risk assessments and control improvements.
Provides advice, guidance and support to the business on all risk matters (including regulatory compliance)
Plans, prepares and carries out risk and compliance monitoring reviews of the business unit.

Work on Management Risk Committees.

Chair the UK Management Risk Committee
Be a Member of the companies International Risk Management Steering Committee.
Develop and enhance monthly and quarterly Risk Reports to the UK Management Risk Committee and Risk and Compliance Committee, respectively.

Member of UK Client Risk Committees


Responsible for various Corporate Governance & Regulatory Compliance ad-hoc requests.


Required Qualifications and Experience:

Skills and Abilities:


Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
Proven hands on Risk Management or regulatory compliance experience in either Life Insurance or Reinsurance.
Experience in developing or maintaining a Risk Register and how risk management framework acts as integral part of the calculations for the Individual Capital Assessment.
Experience of working with and implementing key risk indicators; Operational loss and Near Miss processes; development of Risk Management Information and Risk Committee reporting.


Experience in regulatory compliance work and a proven track record of practical application of FSA requirements.
Advanced skills in managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility.
Ability to work independently.
Intermediate project management skills. 
Demonstrates an ability to evaluate project objectives and scope for feasibility and understanding.
Advanced knowledge of broad business practices
Advanced persuasion skills when working with internal and external partners to resolve issues/problems.
Ability to translate business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions.
Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by all stakeholders, including customers and associates.
