Role Description 

The capital management team is primarily focussed on projects which optimise the company’s capital position. These are generally material and often high profile and typically take the form of transactions or other changes to business arrangements. The team’s role also includes optimisation and commercial challenge of Solvency II methodology and enabling actions such as owning reinsurance strategy.

This is a great time to be in capital management given the opportunity to exploit capital synergies and apply a best of both approach post-merger and to re-optimise the business on a Solvency II basis as the focus shifts away from implementing the new regime and addressing immediate consequences to operating more effectively within it.

The capital project roles are a good opportunity for people with a sound knowledge of financial metrics and Solvency II to apply those skills to new activities to generate value.

Duties and responsibilities of the Manager Actuarial Capital Projects  will include but not be limited to:

  • Fact finding and investigation
  • Determining premiums and other commercial terms
  • Determining capital & financial impacts
  • Assessing fairness and operational and implementation considerations and ensuring successful implementation
  • Communicating plans and proposals, specifying requirements
  • Drafting papers & reviewing / providing SME input into legal documents
  • Financial modelling
  • Data Analysis
  • Risk Management
  • Capital Management
  • Assumption testing

The Successful candidate will be a Qualified Actuary with a familiarity with capital transactions and relevant considerations. They will be able to work proactively with a range of stakeholders, building strong relationships in order to achieve project goals. A familiarity with project management methodology is required as well as the flexibility and ability to respond to change.
