Job Description

The Group Protection Actuarial team is a team of 7 people split across Norwich and Eastleigh who support delivery of the Group Protection Strategy through development and implementation of the scheme underwriting philosophy.  The team cover Group Income Protection, Group Life, Group Critical Illness and other related propositions and we are currently recruiting for a Part Qualified Qualified Actuary. 

The successful candidate will join the team in Eastleigh and report to the Group Protection Actuary.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Develop the Group Protection scheme underwriting philosophy to support key financials
  • Support the Group Protection Actuary and Senior Group Protection Actuary
  • Support the Group Risk operational teams though technical support and work towards a scheme underwriting sign off authority
  • Support system development by providing technical expertise
  • Produce Solvency II metrics using Prophet and the Emulate model
  • Input to and compliance with governance measures
  • Maintain strong relationships across Group Protection teams and other contacts

Essential Knowledge and Skills:-

  • Numerate degree or equivalent
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and modelling skills
  • Experience of standard Microsoft Office programs e.g. Excel, Word
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to plan and organise work with a range of deadlines

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:-

  • May be part qualified as an actuary but may be a new graduate
  • Some insurance industry experience ideal
  • Some understanding of the financial dynamics of the Group Protection business
  • Some understanding of the Group Protection strategy, products and markets
  • Good understanding of insurance risk and pricing
  • Experience of using Prophet cashflow modelling
