Job Description

We are currently recruiting for new talent into our Actuarial departments in Aviva Life UK based in York. Rich in ancient history, romantic ambience and fun activities, York is the perfect location. With its vibrant café culture, exquisite architecture, tangle of quaint cobbled streets, iconic York Minster and a wealth of visitor attractions, York is a flourishing city, just two hours by train from London.

We want to offer you the opportunity of a career with us at a time when our business is embedding Solvency II. With hard work successful applicants will have numerous opportunities to learn, network, develop their skills and make a significant contribution to the production of actuarial results, as well as a portfolio of developments to key actuarial models.

About the role

The roles will give real responsibility for tasks and decisions that will affect our business. We offer excellent career development opportunities for talented individuals to play a key part in the development of actuarial reporting systems and processes and the implementation of changes in assumptions and methodology.

There will be a unique chance to play a leading role in the financial integration work generated from the acquisition of Friends Life, including embedding the Friends Life business on Internal Model, supporting Part VII activity and aligning reporting systems and processes across the two former businesses.

At Aviva, we place a strong focus on giving individual accountability as part of career development. You will not only be involved in reporting and development activity, but also the explanation of the results as part of the sign-off process.

Joining a highly capable and motivated Actuarial Reporting and Development function, you will be responsible for a wide range of activity. It’s a fast paced, dynamic environment where you’ll use your problem-solving skills and mathematical approach to really make your mark on the UK Life business.

About you

You’ll need to be highly numerate and analytical, with the capability to interpret data and come up with solutions to complex problems. Knowledge of actuarial principles, formulae and methodology is preferred along with an awareness of the UK Life Insurance Industry and its’ products. An understanding of the actuarial reporting measures, systems and processes is key, and previous experience of working within an actuarial environment is desirable but not essential. Good communication skills are a must and if you’ve got some experience of working with Prophet, ALS or Excel, that’s even better.

As well as a competitive salary, you’ll also receive an excellent holiday allowance, bonus and an enviable pension scheme – as you’d expect from the UK’s largest pension provider.
